Educational acoustics projects undertaken by dB Acoustics include:
Singapore Management University (SMU) – School of LawBackground noise and long reverberation time causes poor speech intelligibility, which may give rise to mistrial if the jury are unable to hear what the witnesses and attorneys are saying. Thus, the ability to effectively communicate is of utmost importance in a courtroom. In SMU School of Law, dB Acoustics supplied timber acoustic wall panels and acoustic baffle ceilings.
Lee Kong Chian School of MedicineSound is an important part of human life. A student's ability to hear and understand what is being said is crucial for learning. Unfortunately, this ability can be reduced in a noisy classroom. Ecophon acoustic wall panels C are used at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine to reduce the reverberation time, ultimately creating a conducive learning environment for the students.
Good acoustics is necessary in creating a conducive area for studying or group project meetings. Ecophon Solo acoustic free hanging units were installed in such areas in Singapore Polytechnic. This is to absorb the noise created through group discussions so as to achieve better noise control and at the same time improve the students’ study experienc
Nanyang Technological University
Room acoustics treatment in lecture theatres were carried out to reduce excessive reverberation. This has resulted in good speech clarity which is crucial for the students’ learning process. Research has shown that proper classroom acoustics is essential not only in achieving good speech intelligibility, but it also affects students’ behavior and their ability to concentrate in the lesson.
My First Skool @ Compassvale Link, Singapore
Loud wailing and screams from the children were echoing profusely through the activity room. The teachers were helpless in taking control of the classes and resorted to raising their own voices. This did not only increase the noise level altogether, but also the chances of ailments such as sore throat and fatigue amongst the staff.
Despite all exisitng fittings on the ceiling, i.e. fans and hanging lights, dB Acoustics was able to fit Ecophon Solo panels to the room which provided excellent acoustic absorption. Both students and teachers were able to resume classes in a much more comfortable and productive environment.
Ngee Ann Polytechnic
Room acoustic treatment at lecture theatres were carried out to reduce excessive reverberation. This has resulted in good speech clarity crucial for the learning process to take place. Research has shown that proper classroom acoustics is crucial not only in achieving good speech intelligibility but it also affects students behaviour and their ability to concentrate.
Ngee Ann Kongsi Auditorium @ UTown Campus
The design plan was to create a timeless natural yet rustic timber look while meeting the different acoustical requirements.
dB Acoustics, together with the architect and the acoustic consultant, came up with these sustainable acoustic solutions. The auditorium walls were cladded with solid recycled pine blocks of different shapes and sizes, and an overhead absorptive acoustic drum lined with timber battens was installed.
The unfinished pine wood acoustic blocks add a warm, rustic feel to the auditorium space, while creating a perfectly diffuse sound field. The acoustic drum with timber battens boosts sound absorption and serves as an attractive design feature.
Overseas Family School
The Overseas Family School's new campus at Pasir Ris has impressive facilities such as a very large multi-purpose auditorium. This auditorium is used for activities such as assemblies, school concerts, and other special events. Immediately beside the Multipurpose Auditorium is a large Atrium which connects various parts of the school. The school also has 4 large Performance Studios, one of which is a Black Box Theatre. dB Acoustics has successfully delivered the above project despite a relatively tight time frame.
Singapore American School @ Woodlands
Floor-to-ceiling glass walls surround the double volume library and resource centre at the Singapore American School. Glass lures natural light into the library and the atrium. For better noise control and acoustic comfort, dB Acoustics installed Ecophon acoustic ceilings throughout the centre.
The acoustics in the glass atrium was further enhanced by installing the Ecophon Solo range of free-hanging sound-absorbing panels. Acoustically, this reduces radiated flutters (echoes). Aesthetically, it softens glare from the direct natural light.
NUS University Town @ Dover Road, Singapore
dB Acoustics improved the acoustics of the university’s multi-purpose halls by installing Ecophon acoustic ceilings and wall panels.
Blending style with acoustics, timber acoustic decorative panels were added to achieve the desired aesthetic look.
Dining halls are demanding environments which require acoustical treatments that can withstand the daily dirt, grease, cleaning and vacuuming. The dining halls at NUS University Town were acoustically treated with the Ecophon Hygiene range of acoustic ceilings as they met all the requirements for acoustic comfort and hygiene.
